You should limit the amount of sun exposure you get each day. If you're going to be out in the sun for a prolonged period of time make sure you wear some type of protection. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to a variety of problems like premature wrinkles, sun burn, freckles, and even skin cancer.

Make sure you avoid using too much makeup. Most varieties of cosmetics, including powders, concealers and foundations, have pore-clogging potential. Clogged pores can cause more acne. On occasion, makeup can even cause infection when applied over acne. Try to go without any face makeup if you suffer from acne. It would be wise to avoid covering blemishes with concealers and heavy toners, as well.

To keep your skin healthy, don't smoke. Smoking causes your skin to age and it can cause wrinkles on your face. When smoking it makes the blood vessels in the outer layers of skin more narrow. This decreases the blood flowing in your face and depletes the skin of oxygen and important nutrients, needed for healthy skin.

Eat more antioxidant-rich foods to help your skin. Antioxidant-rich foods help to protect the skin. Some great foods that will help your skin are orange and yellow fruits such as carrots and apricots. Other excellent choices are blueberries, and green leafy vegetables such as spinach, tomatoes, peas, beans. Try to get some EFA-rich fish and nuts regularly too.

If you have oily skin, you should exfoliate regularly. Don't do this though, if you have any breakouts as it could irritate them. Depending on your skin's needs and the amount of oil it produces, you can do this anywhere from one to three times a week. Check with your dermatologist to see what will work best for you.

Believe it or not, your makeup does have an expiration date. You will need to throw out your old cosmetics at least every six to eight months, probably sooner. Bacteria and other harmful elements can grow and thrive in your makeup and that is bad for your skin.

It is important to purge the dead skin cells and excess debris that may form on your face while you are outside. Relaxing in a sauna, steam room or hot tub for twenty minutes can open your pores and let in oxygen, improving the way that you feel and look.

Now that you have the intel on how to fight the battle for ideal skin, apply what you know. Skin care all comes down to proper maintenance and good daily habits. Keep that up, and not only will your skin's condition improve, it will stay that way!
